About Union Sanitary District


Founded in 1918, the Union Sanitary District is an independent special district that provides wastewater collection, treatment and disposal services to the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City in Southern Alameda County, California. Major initiatives include the Cogeneration Replacement Project and Thickener Control Building Project, among numerous other studies, repairs, replacements, and new construction projects.

When accounting for residential living units, commercial parcels, and industrial parcels, the Union Sanitary District serves a population of over 347,000 residents across 60.2 square miles. Additionally, the District maintains over 800 miles of underground pipeline in its service area. Every day, Union Sanitary District operates 33 million gallons of wastewater treatment.
